microneedling in salisbury

What does microneedling do for the skin?

Microneedling is an all in one, go to treatment for those of us who want to improve the look, feel, texture and quality of our skin. If you want natural looking results with minimal downtime, then microneedling could be what you are looking for.

Not all microneedling is equal though! If you’re wanting to reap the full benefits of microneedling, you may want to consider medical microneedling. Like the name infers, medical microneedling should only be done by a qualified medical professional.

How does microneedling work?

The microneedling pen device is made up of small needles that are used to penetrate the skin’s dermis. The device creates a series of small injuries which kickstart our body’s natural ability to heal. The body stimulates collagen and elastin production in a bid to heal these micro injuries. Collagen and elastin are the building blocks of smooth, flawless and healthy skin so the more we produce the better the skin looks.

What is medical microneedling?

The difference between regular microneedling or dermarollering and medical microneedling is that the latter uses needles that can penetrate to deeper parts of the skin’s dermis. This is a more intrusive treatment than microneedling that is done superficially, but it also yields better results. Radiofrequency can simultaneously be put through the needles to boost results.

A medically trained practitioner will be able to review your particular skin concerns and determine what level of depth would be best to go to get the results you want to see.

Microneedling can treat the following skin concerns

  • Skin tone and quality
  • Ageing skin
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Scars and acne scarring

Does microneedling hurt

Despite the optics of having lots of little needles puncturing the skin, microneedling doesn’t actually hurt. The device oscillates quite quickly and feels more like a gentle vibration on the skin. Depending on how deep the treatment goes, you may find that you are a little red after your treatment and you may not want to wait for the redness to go down before carrying on with your daily activities. If you are planning a microneedling treatment it makes sense to do it when you don’t have any big events in your diary. Medical microneedling can be a bit more uncomfortable and depending on the depth may need some numbing cream applied before hand.

At Fountain of Youth in Salisbury we include medical grade serums when we do your microneedling treatment. Our serums are filled with ingredients that are beneficial to your skin health and the combination of luxurious serums and microneedling leaves our patients’ skin looking and feeling fabulous.

Microneedling aftercare

After a treatment you will need to pay special attention to your skin so that it heals well and so that you get the best results from the treatment. Because your skin will have been agitated you will want to steer clear of harsh products that could make your skin feel more sensitive. It is best to let your skin breathe for 24 – 48 hours by avoiding makeup and not using skincare with active ingredients in, such as retinols, peptides or vitamin C.

At Fountain of Youth we give all our microneedling patients a post procedure pack and advise thoroughly on the best aftercare to keep your skin in tip top shape.

A warning against at home devices/microneedling

Dermarollers should only be single use as the needles blunt quickly and reuse (even if sterilised) poses an increased risk of skin infection. Microneedling pen devices while easily available should not be taken lightly and needles need to be replaced after each use. Irritation and infection are more likely when doing these treatments at home.
