Not every tweakment turns out how you envisioned. Whether it’s a pillow-lipped pout that’s lost its shape or cheek filler that’s moved south, I want you to know, you’re not stuck with it.
At Fountain of Youth, I regularly see women walk through our doors with the same quiet worry: “Can you fix this?” And the answer, more often than not, is yes. In fact, with the right expertise and tools, we can safely dissolve migrated filler and restore harmony to your face, often in just one or two sessions.
Let’s explore how it works.
What Is Filler Migration and Why Does It Happen?
Understanding the Science of Filler Movement
Dermal fillers are designed to stay put, but only if they’re placed precisely, in the right amount, and in the right plane of tissue. Unfortunately, not all treatments are created equal. Sometimes, filler can migrate away from its intended location and disrupt the natural contours of your face.
Poor injection technique is often to blame, but overfilling, the use of incorrect product types, or even repetitive movement in the area can also cause problems. Lip fillers are especially prone to migration, particularly if the vermilion border is repeatedly injected.
The Tell-Tale Signs of Migration
How do you know if your filler has shifted?
- A shelf-like protrusion above the upper lip (commonly called the “duck lip” effect).
- Puffiness or ridges under the eyes or cheeks.
- Uneven swelling or a blurred lip border that looks unnatural.
- A general sense that something just “doesn’t look right” anymore.
If that’s you, don’t worry, you’re in the right hands.
When Filler Goes Wrong – Know Your Options
You Are Not Stuck With It
Let me bust a myth: filler isn’t permanent. Most hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers can be dissolved using a special enzyme called Hyaluronidase. It’s safe, effective, and has been used in medical practice for decades.
The beauty of this treatment is its precision. We can target only the migrated or unwanted filler, leaving the rest untouched, or remove everything and start fresh. The choice is yours.
When Should You Consider Dissolving Filler?
There’s no shame in changing your mind. You might want to dissolve your filler if:
- It has migrated or caused asymmetry.
- The result looks overdone or doesn’t suit your features anymore.
- You’ve had a reaction or complication.
- You simply want to start afresh.
Sometimes, it’s not about getting more, it’s about getting it right.
How We Dissolve Filler at Fountain of Youth
Hyaluronidase: The Safe Reversal Agent
At our Salisbury aesthetics clinic, we use Hyaluronidase injections to gently break down and absorb excess HA filler. This naturally occurring enzyme is injected precisely where needed, allowing us to sculpt, correct, and refine your results with medical precision.
The process is surprisingly quick. You might feel a slight sting, but it’s over in minutes.
Most people see results within 24- 48 hours, although some mild swelling and tenderness can be expected initially.
Trust Our Expertise in Filler Correction
Dissolving filler is just as much an art as injecting it. That’s why I believe only experienced, medically qualified practitioners should perform this procedure.
Here at Fountain of Youth, our filler correction treatments are delivered with care, compassion, and clinical expertise. Before we do anything, we’ll talk through your concerns, assess your face holistically, and create a plan that feels right for you.
What Happens After Filler Dissolving?
Recovery, Timeline, and Expectations
Once the Hyaluronidase does its job, your face may feel softer, lighter, and often, more like you. You’ll notice swelling go down within a few days, and the overfilled or distorted areas will gradually return to their natural state.
Every face responds slightly differently, but the emotional lift most of our patients feel is almost immediate.
Will dissolving filler cause damage to my natural hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronidase is the naturally occurring enzyme that breaks down our hyaluronic acid in order to renew it. So there can be a degree of your natural hyaluronic acid broken down during the procedure but don’t worry your body will replenish it.
Naturally the more dissolving agent used the more likely this will happen. The key here is to use the right amount of hyaluronidase for the amount of filler to be dissolved.
There are many stories along the lines of ‘Dissolving my filler ruined my face’. Most of these cases are patients that have had numerous sessions of filler over the years. Over time, the skin becomes stretched and overfilled. When this large amount of filler is dissolved in an instant, it would of course change the way they look. Effectively they are returned to their original pre-filler selves, now with looser, wrinkled skin.
Instead of using this start-from-scratch approach with these unwanted outcomes, we would usually suggest dissolving over multiple sessions or using a targeted approach to remove the unwanted filler to achieve the desired result.
Should You Get Re-Filled After Dissolving?
Sometimes, patients choose to wait and enjoy a filler-free look. Others want to refine or refresh the area with a lighter, more strategic hand.
At Fountain of Youth, we’ll talk this through together. If you do wish to refill, we’ll usually wait at least 2 weeks to allow your tissues to settle and fully clear the old product.
The result? More balanced, natural results, achieved with intention, not impulse.
